808

Maton’s most popular body shape and the shape of choice for Tommy Emmanuel. Small guitar with a big voice -the 808 is a classic fingerstyle guitar with a balanced tone and very smooth, even volume.

Suited to playing styles where you want the bass to match the mid-range and trebles, so that the intricate melodies and moving bass lines blend together seamlessly.

Developed in 1978 by Chris Ffinch, the 808 shape is unique due to the 00 shaped silhouette combined with a full body depth and a 25.5” scale as opposed to most other small-bodied guitars which traditionally have a scale length of 24.9 inches.

Traditional

Traditional/Traditional Thinline – Based on the world renowned 000 or OM shape, the Maton Traditional takes the classic outline of this celebrated shape and combines it with the body depth of the Maton 808.

Compared front on to an 808, the Traditional is wider at the lower bout. This produces an extremely versatile acoustic guitar tone that falls somewhere between the big sound of the dreadnought and the brighter focussed sound of the 808.

Dreadnought

The most recognisable of these body sizes is the Dreadnought. It has a full, rich tone suited for acoustic strumming and singers who need a loud and punchy accompaniment with more bass than the 808.
