AP5 Pro Pickup System

Maton’s premium onboard pickup system, featuring a blendable microphone alongside the piezo pickup for the most natural amplified acoustic tone in the lineup.

The AP5 Pro is the result of years of prototyping and hundreds of listening sessions with Maton’s own engineers and artists, including Tommy Emmanuel, who called an early version “the best recordable sound I have ever heard.” Eric Johnson has named it his favourite acoustic amplification system, full stop.

What sets it apart:

• True mic and piezo blending. This is the main thing that separates the Pro from the Original: independent Microphone and Piezo controls let you dial in your own balance of both signal sources before they’re combined and sent to the master volume, rather than relying on piezo alone.
• A microphone you can actually position. The highly directional cardioid mic mounts to the preamp on an adjustable arm inside the guitar body, so you can fine tune its placement to your instrument and playing style, with far more headroom before feedback than earlier systems.
• A wider, smoother mid range sweep. The FQ control sweeps from 600Hz to 2.4kHz, a deep and wide range, with linear feel Bass, Treble and Mid controls that respond predictably across their whole travel.
• A cleaner signal path. Every electrolytic capacitor has been removed from the audio path, which Maton credits for a noticeably cleaner tone that doesn’t degrade in quality over time.
• Built for the road. The whole preamp lives on a single, tightly packed PCB that’s bolted into the housing, less prone to hum, noise, and the rattles that come from constant touring and transport. All connections are gold plated, locking RJ11 clip in plugs, so worn parts can be swapped without special tools and nothing works loose in transit.
• Smarter battery life. Runs on 2 x AA batteries instead of a single 9V, nearly double the stored energy in a similar footprint, with corrosion resistant phosphor bronze terminals (the same alloy used in ship propellers).
• A tougher piezo channel. The under saddle pickup channel is machined from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminium alloy, paired with a rigid gold plated PCB for sharper transients and more detail.
