“AA” grade Blackwood back and sides — with a Blackwood and rock maple pinstripe zipper down the centre — meet a solid Blackwood neck to produce a rich, well-balanced tone with a warm, grounded midrange. A Bunya face brings the dynamic response and headroom to match, and a Desert Acacia (Mulga) fingerboard and bridge complete a timber selection drawn almost entirely from this country. The back is radiused to widen the tonal spectrum, adding bottom-end response to Maton’s classic earthy voice.
In the 808 body it trades some of the dreadnought’s weight for balance — the midrange stays open and each string sits evenly against the next, which suits fingerstyle and accompaniment and records cleanly. Herringbone binding and Maton’s UV-cured gloss face — a finer coat for a finer tone — set it off, with gold Grover Rotomatics and a bone nut and saddle. The AP5 PRO pickup system carries it to the stage, and it ships in a Standard Maton Hard Case.
